When Fashion Week becomes more about the spectacle than the clothes itself it’s refreshing to see a brand like Haus Alkire that is unusually unagitated for a fashion house. Julie and Jason Alkire, the husband-wife design duo behind the brand, are known for abstaining the circus around the presentations by inviting selected press and clients in their New York townhouse and store simultaneously to show their designs in an intimate setting rather than at a large scale fashion show. This aligns with the brand identity, as their Fall 2017 collection doesn’t follow fast trends.
The pieces were inspired by film producer, designer and art director Henry Bumstead who has worked on iconic movies such as “To Kill a Mockingbird”, “Million Dollar Baby” and “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”. The occasionally moody and dark turns of the movies become visible in the at times preppy pieces and sharply structured shapes they showed during New York Fashion Week. To complement the strong, often menswear inspired looks, the couple handpicked frames by the Austrian label neubau eyewear to go along with their designs. We got a chance go behind-the-scenes and talk with Julie and Jason Alkire about their latest collection and collaboration with neubau eyewear.
